address: Heart IslandThis island estate is an example of the expense and luxury exhibited by the wealthy island-owners of the latter 19th and early 20th centuries. This is a true castle in the Rhineland style. Construction began in 1900 but was halted in 1904 when George C. Boldt's wife passed away; he never visited the property again. Only in the 1970s was the castle rescued and restored, and it is now open to tours. To get there, you will need either your own boat or the services of a local tour operator, several of which operate on both sides of the U.S.–Canadian border. The nearby Yacht House, with fully enclosed bays for several ships, is being similarly restored, with more limited operating hours. Restrooms, docks, picnicking, a gift shop, and concessions are available.
