Belarusian (беларуская мова) is the main language of Belarus.
Belarusian and Russian are the two official languages, but Russian is more widely spoken. It would be difficult to get by in Belarus without some knowledge of Russian. However, the two languages are closely related (as is Ukrainian), so even the Belarusian monolinguals understand some Russian and Ukrainian. Polish is also spoken in the western parts of Belarus, especially around Grodno. Also, all traffic signs and street signs are written in Belarusian.
