Caburé is not even a village in Maranhão. Beautifully situated between the river and the sea, sometimes covered in a fine layer of sand carried in by certain winds. Its proximity to Lençóis Maranhenses could make it a base camp, but there is the river in between. Go for Atins instead. Get in
No scheduled transport.
- The Barreirinhas - Atins boat calls occasionally (and certainly if you request so upon boarding).
- Hoards of daytrippers come in between 10AM and 1PM, -approach their drivers to learn where they are going, seats available and so on. There is always a motor launch idle, but this will prove more expensive unless you are a big grupo, or its heading your way for some different reason.
- Ask at the pousadas if they have a truck for Paulino Neves along the beach. If one is already booked, you can usually hop on paying the corresponding fraction of the full price, which is about R$150.
By 4x4 from Jericoacoara
- 4x4 transport from Jericoacoara can take you to Caburé in less than 7 hours. The car goes via Parnaiba to Paulino Neves and after that, along the beach to Caburé. Prices are less than R$1000 for a car up to 4 and R$1200 for a car up to 6 passengers. Just check with Global Connection (globalconnection.tur.br) on Rua do Forró in Jericoacoara. If you want they will try to combine you with other travellers to share a car to save expenses. From Caburé you will need to cross the river (about 45 min / R$45) to get to Atins
