Concepción is an attractive town on the river Paraguay north of Asunción in northern Paraguay. With some 83,000 inhabitants it is known as La Perla del Norte (pearl of the north) for its climate, beautiful setting, elegant homes, public buildings, and its history. This is also the place where adventurers and backpackers come to board the Aquidabán boat, a living relic that sails up the Paraguay river once a week to Vallemí, Fuerte Olimpo and Bahia Negra in the extreme north of Paraguay.
