British and Irish cuisine used to have a well-deserved reputation for bland food such as dry roast meat with soft boiled vegetables, however since the 1990s things have improved considerably. Britain and Ireland have restaurants (and chefs) to match the best in the world, and there is far more international diversity of cooking styles than in most other European countries. That said, it is more challenging to find consistently great local cuisine at a reasonable price than in the region's continental neighbours.
