Believed to be the burial place of Saint Patrick, the town of Downpatrick in Northern Ireland is a place with a long history. It offers a range of historic heritage, with locally discovered remains going back to prehistoric times. Understand
Downpatrick is a small market town (population around 10,000) and the county town of County Down. It's less than an hour from Belfast, some 33km (21 miles) away, and therefore something of a commuter town as well as a local centre. It hosts a major St Patrick's Day parade on 17 March every year.
