Ellmau is located to the south of B178, a road joining Salzburg in the east to Kufstein and Innsbruck to the west. The nearest autobahn is at Kufstein.In the summer and winter tourist seasons there are buses between Going, Stanglwirt, Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser, Blaiken and Söll (Hohe Salve) for skiers or summer hikers. SkiWelt (+43 5333 400) operates a Skibus through the region.
Ellmau is accessible from Innsbruck and Salzburg via taxi. Munich offers car hire service.
