Jining (Inner Mongolia)
(集宁; Jíníng) is in Inner Mongolia
. It was formerly an independent city but is now administered as part of Ulanqab Prefecture
; it is the main urban area there.
Jining is a railway hub; trains come in from Erenhot
to the north, Hohhot
to the west, and the mining city Datong
to the south. The Trans-Mongolian
branch of the Trans-Siberian railway passes through the city.
