Labhpur is a town in Birbhum of West Bengal.
In the novel Hansulibanker Upkatha, he writes, “The Hansulibank countryside is somewhat rough land. Here, man’s fight is more with land, than that with rivers. When drought comes, in extreme summer, the river becomes a desert, it is a land of sand – only deep water somehow manages to weave a narrow way through it. The land then is transformed into rock. The grass dries up. The land heats up as if it is a piece of heated-up iron.”
Get in
Labhpur is about 30 km from Santiniketan by road. It is about 15 km from Nanoor via Kirnahar by road. It is about 12 km from Ahmadpur, which is on the Sahibganj Loop, by road or rail. Labhpur is a station on the Ahmadpur-Katwa narrow gauge line. The conversion work of narrow gauge into broadgauge is going on.
Get around
Walk or maybe Cycle Rikshaw. Sometimes if you want to really explore you can just hop on to a cycle van. Friendly people might not even charge you for this. Taxis are also available at Old bus stand and at Sasthinagar bus stop.
