Lajitas is a town in the Trans-Pecos region of the state of Texas.Get in
Lajitas is situated on FM 170 between the Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park, along the Rio Grande River.
Midland is the closest commercial airport to Lajitas, approximately a 4-hour drive. El Paso is the next closest commercial airport to Lajitas, approximately a 5-hour drive.
You can also reach the area by train from San Antonio and Austin, which have an Amtrak train three times a week to Alpine, about 90 miles from Lajitas. You can then rent a car there, or get the Lajitas Resort to pick you up for a fee.
There is a large private airport at Lajitas, owned by the Lajitas Resort with a runway. The airport has a landing fee for the aircraft of non-guests.
Rental cars are available at the Midland and El Paso airports.
From Midland-Odessa. Approximately 245 miles. Head West on IH-20 to Monahans. Take Highway 18 South (left) toward Fort Stockton, then turn right onto FM 1776. Cross over IH-10 West. FM 1776 turns into US-67 South. Follow US-67 55 miles to Alpine, then turn left onto SH-118 South (Cockrell Street). Follow SH-118 South 80 miles to the Study Butte-Terlingua junction, then turn right onto FM 170 and continue 14 miles to Lajitas.
From El Paso, approximately 300 miles. Take IH-10 East 118 miles to Van Horn. Take US-90 78 miles through Marfa. Continue to Alpine and turn right onto SH-118 South (Cockrell Street). Follow SH-118 South 80 miles to the Study Butte-Terlingua junction, then turn right onto FM 170 and continue 14 miles to Lajitas.
By plane

Lajitas was likely best known for its mayor, Clay Henry III, who happened to be a beer-drinking goat. Alas, beer drinking goats have short life spans, so his mayoral stable gates have closed for good.
