Limoncocha National Biological Reserve is in the Amazon region of Ecuador.Understand
The reserve protects the Limoncocha lagoon, and a smaller one called Yanacocha, wetlands, swamp areas, and tropical rain forests that surround the lagoon. There is a large concentration of Fauna in and around the reserve. The over 347 species of bird that live in the reserve make Birdwatchingvery popular attraction. Limoncocha also holds a large number of tortoises and a diverse population of fish.
The village itself provides basic accommodation, a couple of restaurants and mini-tiendas.
Get in
By bus
From Coca :Quijos runs two buses a day from the new Bus Terminal (7:00, 14:00). Another option is to take a bus to Sacha, and from Sacha to Limoncocha (Pompeya Itata dirt road).
From Lago Agrio :
They are regular buses between Lago Agrio and Shushufindi. From there, take a bus heading to Limoncocha.
By boat

- It is possible to take a tour on a boat around the lake where you can see various species of birds, monkeys, insects and frogs. It is also possible to practice pirhana fishing during the day and to watch caimans after sunset (bring a strong flashlight to spot their red eyes). Ask people in the village or go directly to the pier to find the guides and their boats.
- Sandero del caimán : A 2 km path located on the north-west part of the lake. Ask for information at the pier
Sleep
- Hotel Limoncocha : Conveniently located close to the pier. Private rooms. WiFi.
- Cabañas Pusara : Nice wooden lodge a little bit in the forest with view on the lagoon. Private rooms and dorms available. Rest area and hammocks on the upper floor. Guests can use the kitchen. Expect to pay around $10 depending on the length of your stay.
