Nanoor is a small town/ large village in Birbhum-Murshidabad of West Bengal. It is the birthplace of 14th century lyric poet Chandidas of Vaishnava Padavali fame. This could be a place to visit if one has the interest of Vaishnava Padavali literature and keen interest in the great life of Chandidas. One hour could be enough to get around the major places to see.
Get in
Nanoor is about 20 km from Santiniketan by road. Frequent bus services are available from Bolpur (Jambuni) Bus Stand towards Katwa, Uddharanpur, Salar, Krishnanagar, Nabadwip, Baharampur etc. It is about 5 km from Kirnahar on the Ahmadpur-Katwa narrow gauge line. There is a road to Labhpur via Kirnahar.
Get around
Walk or hire cycle rikshaw or have your own transport.
See
There are several temples built in the 17-18th century beside a mound popularly known as Chandidas bhita. Some of these temples have exquisite terracotta sculpture.
Do
Fishing in some big ponds (dighi) could be a good idea with the help from the local people.
Buy
Kantha Stitched Sarees are very famous at Nanoor.
Eat
It is too small a place with no big food outlets. But sweetshops are all around where you can buy different kinds of sweets, yoghurt (doi), fries etc.
