Nederland is full of interesting establishments and residents. Just walk around for a while and talk to people and you'll get an idea.
If you come around the time of Ned Fest, the place will be full of hippies, too.

  The Carousel of Happiness is a folk art experience that houses a restored and fully-functioning 1910 Looff carousel, which turns to the music of a 1913 Wurlitzer band organ. It was built for the Saltair beach resort, on the south shore of the Great Salt Lake in Utah. It was brought to Nederland and lovingly restored by local sculptor Scott Harrison. Visitors can ride the original carousel animals, listen to the original organ music, go upstairs to see the original carousel gears at work, and indulge in some wonderful old-time Americana nostalgia.

There are a handful of bars and at least one brew pub in this small town.
