South-Western Liptov
South-Western Liptov is a subregion in Central Slovakia.
Understand
This laid-back area doesn't provide too many big-name tourist attractions, but if you are a nature lover, there are secluded forests that allow hiding from civilisation for many days.
Get in
Get around
Because only relatively small (but long) villages are in the area, thus also the public bus connections aren't ideal - while timely, they only operate a few times a day.
See
Brankov waterfallHighest waterfall of Low Tatras, esp. nice in winter.
Do
Ruzomberok-Korytnica cycle pathA bike road in place of former "small train" track, mostly flat - it's a nice all-day long trip for families, as you can avoid the main road on most of it. Korytnica is a formerly famous spa area, currently somewhat degraded. There are some restaurants and mineral water springs in the area.
- Hike to
Prašivá or Veľká Chocuľa peaks in Low TatrasThe hike up is quite steep for an hour or two.
Salatín peakA peak with good views, the ascend is somewhat steep near the peak.
- Relax at
Gothal aquaparkA relatively small aquapark with a pool, few whirpools, wellness, bowling and minigolf. Also pizza available.
- Fishing at
Revuca riverPretty popular area amongst locals - during summer, many groups of people spend weekends here in tents, relaxing, rafting the (rather cold) river etc.
Great Fatra (and its edges) provides a few skiing areas:
SmrekovicaA secluded and small one, only 400 m.
DonovalyNot in Great Fatra nor Liptov, but right at its edge. You can spend a few days here, esp. because there is plenty of hotels and non-ski activities (e.g. park for kids).
Eat
Vlčí dvorLocal cuisine.
BodegaLocal cuisine, pizza.
Drink
In Korytnica, there are several mineral water springs - if that's your thing. The water is also commercially used.
