Woy Woy is a coastal village 40 km north of Sydney in the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia.Understand
The name; Woy Woy is apparently taken from the local aboriginals of the area, the Darkinjung tribe. The words reputedly mean "deep water", referring to the deep tidal channel adjacent to the town centre.
Once renowned for its oysters, nowadays, Woy Woy is a great place to relax on the weekend and kick-back like the locals. Traditional pubs and fish and chip shops are located conveniently next to the waterfront.

By train
Woy Woy is on the main Northern railway line. Most services from Sydney Central via Strathfield, Epping, and Hornsby to Gosford and Newcastle stop at Woy Woy. A journey from Sydney Central would be under an hour. Magnificent views of parts of the Hawkesbury River which are not accessible by road transport add to the enjoyment of the rail trip.Using an Opal travel card, a one way journey to Woy Woy from Sydney's Central Station costs $5.81
By car
From Sydney, the 85 kilometre journey can be driven on the M1 in about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The drive, like the rail journey, is notable for its abundant and beautiful scenery.

By bike
Woy Woy is linked to Gosford along the western edge of the Brisbane Water by an off-road cycleway and bridge. There is a cycleway heading around the eastern side of the water for a short distance. Bikes can be brought on the train from Sydney.
By public transport
Woy Woy and the surrounding area offers several bus routes for travel in and around Woy Woy, including services to Gosford and other surrounding settlements. As with the rest of the state, buses use Opal travel cards.

The Bayview Hotel is located right near the water and can be seen on your approach, by train or car, from Gosford. It is a popular drinking hole for locals and is typical of many Australian pubs. The Old Woy Woy Pub is across the road.
