It is connected to Beijing, the rest of Hebei and Shanxi by the Xuanda and Jingzhang expressways, and Inner Mongolia by National Highway 207.By rail
Eventually, a high speed line to Beijing will be finished for the 2022 Winter Olympics, with a plan to build another one to Hohhot. Until then, trains only come via the Beijing–Baotou conventional railway. While Zhangjiakounan (Zhangjiakou South) is closed for renovations to accommodate the new high speed lines, passengers must get off at Shalingzixi (Shalingzi West).See
